Why/How did you get into triathlon?

I started as a runner then moved to triathlon to reduce injury. I remember watching Ironman on TV and thinking "Wouldn't that be incredible to do that race one day?" I completed Ironman Canada in 2008. Since then I've settle into the Olympic distance as the training volume best fits my lifestyle.

How has triathlon impacted your life?

In 2018, I had emergency brain surgery for a bleed that was the result of an unknown genetic abnormality. I didn't know if I would ever swim, bike, run (or walk) again! I doubled down on the "triathlon life" in my recovery and haven't looked back as I have soared to new heights, both physically and mentally.

What is your goal for this year's Lake Whatcom Triathlon?

1st place in my category. Aim high!

Why did you sign up for the Lake Whatcom Triathlon specifically?

It's relatively close to where I live and also brings back fond memories of coming to the lake to water ski with my young family.

If you had to choose one sport, would it be swim, bike, or run?

Bike. The things you can see on a long ride are unparalleled.

What is your go-to post-race meal?

Anything that doesn't rhyme with "gel".
